Our 1 Year Houseiversary (that we forgot)

Our 1 year houseiversary has come and gone – the year mark was officially on April 8th so we’re about 2 months past it now without any mention or celebration but considering all that’s going on in the world right now, it’s trivial. Nonetheless, one of the reasons I love having the blog is for posterity purposes and being able see physical progress when oftentimes it feels like there is none and right now I could use a little brain-boost. It’s hard to see how far you’ve come if you can’t remember where you’ve been so to speak.

I love looking back at the before and afters of a room and/or an entire house – kinda like what we did with the condo on this post here – but as the saying goes: a house takes time – so instead of only looking back once we’ve left, lets take a look at how far we’ve actually come in only a year (give or take a month or two).

Living Room

Kitchen

Dining Nook

Bedroom #1

Bedroom #2

Master Bedroom

We still have so much work do to here – not just on our house but in our hearts too but we’re baby stepping towards a better version every day. In terms of physical progress overall, I’d say the biggest difference we’ve made around here is paint! Looking through the updated photos, I’ve painted nearly every room (the living room, Emie’s big girl room, our master too) and there’s nothing like a fresh coat of paint to make the space feel new again. And coincidentally enough, our next big project (psst! It’s the kitchen!) involves heavy doses of paint too from our favorite paint company ever!

In terms of completeness, we’re far from it but I’m pretty happy with Emie’s room, the living room (aside from some small additions), and our room has shaped up pretty nicely too over the last 12 months too. The kitchen, entry, and both bathrooms still remain untouched but hopefully we can tackle at least one of the bathrooms this year. All in due time but I’m pretty happy with how far we’ve come in a year. I’m hopeful that when we look back a year from now, so much more will have changed then too.

  1. You’ve made wonderful progress in a year – it all takes time!

We spent most of the first year in our new home figuring out how we use the various rooms and how light moves through the house. We had plenty of furniture but now we’re looking for small pieces to complete rooms so they work better for us. And we’re finally covering the medium green and gold walls with pale pink and peach (both practically white) to lighten the rooms and fit with our color sense.

Now if I could just find some suitable wall sconces to replace the butt-ugly ones in our long dark hallway! In a perfect world I’d have ceiling fixtures or recessed cans added but for now I just want to replace the sconces!

Looking forward to whatever you do next.

    • You’re absolutely right – home takes time and I’m enjoying the journey along the way. Sounds like you’ve got quite the project list going on too but I guess that’s what we do when we love our home – we love on it right back!
